Interpreting and Translating Centre

Work with us

We are hiring skilled interpreters and translators to provide services to the South Australian community.

Our interpreters and translators often work with health services (like hospitals) and legal services (like SA police and the courts) in person, over the telephone and via videoconferencing.

To work as a casual interpreter or translator with us, you will need:

  • A copy of your current résumé
  • Cover letter
  • NAATI Certifications
  • Any other supporting documentation.

What we expect from you

  • NAATI Interpreter/Translator credentials (if available in your language)
  • A current National Police Clearance dated within the past 6 months
  • A current South Australian Working with Children Check
  • Knowledge of the AUSIT Code of Ethics
  • Availability to provide services
  • Australian citizenship, Australian permanent residency or a visa with rights to work in Australia.

Interpreters

Languages in demand

Albanian, Bangla, Bari, Bisaya, Chin dialects, Dari, Dinka, Greek, Gujarati, Hazaragi, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Karen, Kirundi, Korean, Kurdish dialects, Lao, Matu, Motu (HiriMotu), Nepali, Pitjantjatjara, Polish, Punjabi, Rohingya, Samoan, Swahili, Tamil, Tagalog, Tartar, Tigrinya, Urdu and Zotung.

Desirable qualifications

We will consider appointing interpreters in any language if they hold a NAATI Certified Provisional Credential or higher subject to language demand priorities.

We will also consider experienced interpreters who have completed, or are willing to complete, the necessary formal training and meet the prerequisite requirements for NAATI testing.

In languages where NAATI certification is not available, we prefer applicants with NAATI Recognised Practising Interpreter credentials.

Translators

Languages in demand

Amharic, Danish, Dinka, German, Hakha Chin, Hazaragi, Hindi, Karen, Kinyarwanda, Lao, Malay, Norwegian, Oromo, Pashto, Punjabi, Swedish, Turkish and Uyghur languages.

Desirable qualifications

We will consider translators with a NAATI Certified Translator Credential or Recognised Practicing Translator Credential subject to language demand priorities.
